Pre-schools to remain closed on Wednesdays; Private schools requested to do same

The Ministry of Education stated that, as government schools are closed on Wednesdays which have been declared as public holidays, a request has been made for government-approved private schools to also remain closed on those days.

Accordingly, government-approved private schools have been notified to close on Wednesdays.

Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Nalaka Kaluwewa, further stated that a request has been made for international schools to follow the same procedure.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has issued instructions that preschools should also remain closed on all Wednesdays.

In addition, the government has directed that tuition classes and lectures should not be conducted on Wednesdays that have been declared public holidays.

Commissioner General of Essential Services, Prabath Chandrakeerthi, noted that this decision has been made in view of the prevailing fuel crisis.
