Chief Inspector Varuni Bogahawatta, who served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Administration Division of the Kotawila Police Station, and four other suspects have been further remanded until November 20.

The order was issued by Matara Chief Magistrate Chathura Dissanayake, said Ada Derana reporter.

During the court proceedings, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that investigations would be concluded and the relevant findings submitted on November 20.

Chief Inspector Varuni Bogahawatta was arrested by the CID over her failure to disclose the sources of funds used to purchase a vehicle and pay its lease instalments.

A luxury vehicle in her possession was also taken into CID custody recently.

The investigations were initiated following revelations that the lease instalments for the vehicle had allegedly been paid by an individual suspected of involvement in the misappropriation of more than Rs. 1 billion from the Matara Cooperative Society.
