Several boats destroyed in fire at Galle Fisheries Harbour
Several boats have been completely destroyed after a fire broke out at the boat maintenance yard of the Galle Fisheries Harbour around noon today (08).
The fire reportedly began in an old boat parked at the maintenance yard before spreading to several other boats in the harbour.
The Sri Lanka Navy, Galle Municipal Fire Brigade, Harbour Police and members of the fishing community have joined efforts to bring the blaze under control.
Three fire engines have been deployed to the scene, and reports indicate that the fire has been brought partially under control.
The cause of the fire has not been ascertained thus far.
