A suspect has been arrested whose DNA match the samples found from six women murdered in Kotakethana area in Kahawatta, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) announced today (15).

The CID apprised the Pelmadulla Magistrate’s Court this while submitting a report prepared by the Genetech Molecular Diagnostics Research Institute (GMDRI).

The suspect had been referred to the GMDRI for a DNA test last Sunday after he was arrested on Friday in connection with the murder of a woman in Kotakethana, according to the police.

The CID has seized two knives believed to have been used in crimes as well. “This suspect’s DNA match six of seven samples found from murdered women in Kotakethana. The result of the last test is still pending,” a police officer said.

Pelmadulla Magistrate Dinesh Lakmal ordered the suspect to be remanded until December 29. The CID conducts further investigations.
