February 21, 2016   11:23 am

The grace period given for the fishermen to use purse seine (Laila and Surukku) nets is concluded from today (21), the Government Information Department announced.

Accordingly, the ban for using this equipment is strictly in force from today and those who violate this rule will be raided and will be fined with Rs. 50.000/=.

Use of these illegal fishing gear directly affects the small scale fisheries community in many ways and also the aquatic resource.
