Several schools closed owing to severe weather conditions

Over 25 schools in the North Western province have been temporary closed until further notice owing to the prevailing bad weather conditions.


Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has also instructed authorities of all the regional and zonal education divisions to take the necessary decisions regarding closure of schools in their areas due to the prevailing adverse weather.

 
Accordingly, principles of school that had an impact from the adverse weather could inform the regional or zonal directors about the situation and follow the instruction, to continue or close the school. The minister further stated this decision had been taken following landslides, minor flood situations and heavy rain been reported from several parts of the island.

UPDATE: Eight schools in Kandy, Dharmaraja, Mahamaya, Pushpadana,D.S,Galaha Shanmuga, Gothami,Kannangara, Shivashakthi closed on18 & 19May due to bad weather.

All Schools in the Sabaragamuwa province will be closed on 18 & 19 May due to bad weather - Provincial education secretary.
