Police investigates cop’s phone records over Thajudeen case

Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake and former Crime OIC of the Narahenpita police Sumith Perera have been further remanded by the Colombo Additional Magistrate, Ada Derana reporter said.
The suspects were further remanded until 10 August when the case in connection with the murder of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen was taken up for hearing this afternoon.
The State Council apprised the Magistrate a statement on the mobile phone records of the OIC of the Narahenpita are being investigated by the police. Several calls from the Presidential Secretariat Office were among the calls made to his mobile on the day of the incident, the State Council added.
He also went on to say that the CCTV footage of the incident will be sent to the British Columbia Society of Laboratory Science in Canada for further investigations.
Former Crime OIC of the Narahenpita police Sumith Perera and ex-DIG have been arrested for allegedly withholding evidence pertaining to the case. Thajudeen, a Sri Lankan ruggerite and former Havelock SC captain, was killed in Colombo in May 2012.
