Biswal meets Tamil diaspora group in US

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal has held talks with the London-based Tamil diaspora organisation, the Global Tamil Forum (GTF), with regard to diaspora efforts to support reconciliation and accountability in Sri Lanka.

“Good discussion with Tom Malinowski and GTF on diaspora efforts to support reconciliation and accountability in SL,” she wrote on Twitter.

The US State Department’s Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour, Tom Malinowski, had also participated in the discussion.

The head of the Global Tamil Forum, Father S. J. Emmanuel, its spokesperson Suren Surenthiran and other members took part in the discussion. 

Meanwhile in a separate meeting Biswal also held discussions with a Sri Lankan parliamentary delegation, currently on a visit to the United States, led by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. 

He was joined by Ajith P. Perera, Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Karunaratne Paranavithane, Deputy Minister of Parliament Reform and Mass Media, Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, State Minister of City Planning and Water Supply and Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Prasad Kariyawasam.
