The ultimate decision of the anti-graft commission’s director to step down from her position would restore credibility of the institution, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila says.
He made the observation while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (18).
Gammanpila also pointed out that President Maithripala Sirisena expressed his displeasure on the anti-corruption agency after losing his credibility in its director. “Thus, her decision to resign was “correct”. She may have resigned before being dismissed,” he added. “There should be an accurate replacement. Hopefully, this wouldn’t be like exchanging ginger for chili (Inguru dee miris gatta wagei),” he added.
Gammanpila also said that the President was not only referring to the Bribery Commission. “He also mentioned the police,” Gammanpila reminded.
“The IGP can also follow the steps of the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption” Gammanpila said.
