Four arrested with dried turtle meat

Four persons have been arrested for the possession of 1.8 kilograms of dried turtle meat in the Negombo Fisheries Harbour.
 
Naval personnel attached to Naval Detachment of Negombo arrested the suspects yesterday (8) after the turtle meat was found from a multi-day fishing trawler during a search carried out by them.

The arrested persons, dried turtle meat and trawler were handed over to Negombo Fisheries Director for further legal action, the navy media unit said.

Meanwhile naval personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba located in Mannar in the North Central Naval Command arrested 9 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using monofilament nets in the sea area off Pallemunai yesterday (8).

Along with the suspects; 4 traditional boats (rafters) and 4 monofilament nets used for fishing activities were taken into naval custody. 

The apprehended persons and belongings were handed over to Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Mannar for further investigations.
