Rough seas expected due to ‘Vardah’

The very severe cyclonic storm (“VARDAH”) in the Bay of Bengal is now located about 400 km away from Kankasanturai coast, to the north-east of Sri Lanka and it is likely to move westward towards India. 


It is likely to cross North Thamilnadu coast on today afternoon.


Showers will occur at several places in the Western, North –Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces.


Showers or thundershowers may occur at few places in the Uva province and Batticaloa district after 2.00p.m. Winds will be Westerly to south-westerly in direction and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.


The sea area off the coast extending from to Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai can be very rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 70 -80 kmph.
