It is a victory for democracy that a COPE report has been forwarded to the Attorney General for the first time in Sri Lankan history, UNP MP Mujibur Rahman says.

He made the observation while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo on Thursday.

“A COPE report has been forwarded to the AG for onward action for the first time here,” he said.

Rahman also went on to say the government also holds the same opinion that legal action should be taken if a fraudulent deal has occurred when selling bonds.

“We have nothing to hide, and the Government has no intention of sweeping anything under the rug,” he said.

He also underlined though many COPE reports had been presented to the Parliament, none of it was forwarded to the AG department earlier.
