No Mahaviru commemoration within NPC - Chairman

The Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Chairman C. V. K. Sivagnanam has denied a request made by Provincial Councilor member E.Arnold to commemorate  Mahaviru Day within the Provincials Council boundaries.

At the 110th Council Session held at the NPC Building Complex, Kaithady, Jaffna today(23) permission was sought by the NPC member to commemorate Mahaviru Day by lighting oil lamps.

However, NPC Chairman declined the request stating that permission cannot be granted to hold such a commemoration event within the Council  premises.

The NPC Chairman added that they are free to conduct such events individually or in groups outside the Coucil.

NPC member V.Jayathilake commended the Chairman’s action of not granting permission for such a commemoration.

Meanwhile, a group of  NP Councilors have decided to commemorate a Mahaviru week from November 20-27.
