Facebook Messenger down again

Facebook Messenger is down again for the second time in a week.

The popular app suffered a major outage last week with hundreds of users unable to access or send messages.

Facebook fixed those issues fairly rapidly but it seems the gremlins have returned.

Messenger is currently down for some users with many unable to use the service.

Down Detector, an independent website that tracks social mentions around certain topics to detect outages across the world, has also seen hundreds of reports.

It seems the issues began around 11.15am this morning with users across the UK and Europe appearing hardest hit.

It’s currently unclear what is causing these new issues but there’s plenty of users expressing their dismay on social media.

Speaking about the previous issues, a statement from Facebook Messenger said: “On Thursday November 30 just after midnight Pacific time we became aware that a few people were having issues with their Messenger accounts.

“We investigated and responded and the problem is resolved. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.”

This isn’t the first time Messenger fans have faced issues this year.

In September the app kept crashing after Apple released its iOS 11 update leaving thousands of iPhone users unable to access the service.

The news of this latest outage comes as Facebook Messenger has recently added a raft of new features.

One of these bonus additions allows users to send pictures in stunning 4K quality.

This means users get a much richer and sharper experience when viewing images that have been sent over social media.

Messenger says that it is making significant investments in how people communicate visually via the service.

To send and share photos at 4K resolution, first update your Messenger app to make sure you have the latest version. 

Then open a conversation and tap the camera roll icon. Select the photo, tap send, and the person you’re messaging with will receive the high resolution photo. 

Facebook Messenger has also announced it has launched a new payment service in the UK that allows users to send money to one another via the popular app.

Peer-to-peer payments have been available in the US for a while but this new feature will now be available to Messenger users in Britain.
