Water supply to Galle MC area suspended

The water supply to the Galle Municipal Council are has been temporarily suspended due to a fire breaking out at the Wakwella water treatment plant, the National Water Supply & Drainage Board announced. 

A sudden fire had broken out in the electrical system of the Wakwella water treatment plant in Galle resulting in the complete shutdown of operations at the plant. 

The water board’s area engineer (Galle) M.K. Lesty stated that water treatment operations have been restored to normalcy, however the distribution of water is not back to normal yet.

He stated that the supply of water would resume in a couple of hours and that until then the supply to the Galle MC area has been suspended.

However, the supply of water to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and the Maha Modara Teaching Hospital will be uninterrupted, he said.
