Fuel prices to increase from midnight today

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) will revise fuel prices with effect from midnight today (May 10), co-cabinet spokesman Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.

He stated that the decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting last night.

Accordingly the new price of Octane 92 Petrol will be Rs 137 while Octane 95 will be prices at Rs 148 per litre. Auto Diesel price has been increased to Rs 109 while Super Diesel will be sold at Rs 119.

Meanwhile the price of kerosene will be increased from Rs 44 to Rs 101 with effect from midnight today.

However, kerosene will be issued to fishermen and Samurdhi beneficiaries at the old price of Rs 44 as a concession, the minister said.

The exception is made for those two communities as they use kerosene for their day-to-day needs whereas others use it on their vehicles, according to Senaratne.

This measure is taken to prevent the misuse of kerosene, he added.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing in Colombo, he also said that kerosene usage has increased by 48% in the past 3 years.

New Fuel Prices:

Petrol (Octane 92) – Rs 137 per litre

Petrol (Octane 95) – Rs 148 per litre

Auto Diesel – Rs 109 per litre

Super Diesel – Rs 119 per litre

Kerosene – Rs 101 per litre
