Police fire tear gas at protesting HND students

July 25, 2018   03:31 pm

Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesting HND students at Lotus Road in Colombo.

The protest was organised based on several demands including the increase of Mahapola bursary to Rs 5,000 per student.

The protesters had marched through Colombo towards the Presidential Secretariat, causing severe traffic congestion on several major roads along the way.

Riot Police resorted to using water cannons and tear gas as the protesting students had attempted to march through the barricades placed near the Lotus Roundabout.
