The Akurana Town in Kandy is inundated due to heavy rainfall in the area, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.

Motorists are requested to avoid the Akurana Town and use alternate routes when passing through.

Several areas in the Kandy District have experienced showery weather conditions today while it is expected to continue in the Central Province in the coming few days.

The Department of Meteorology said that due to a low level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, the prevailing showery condition in the island particularly, in the North-central, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces is expected to continue during next few days.

Heavy falls about 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, North-central and Southern provinces, it said.

Showers or thundershowers are also expected to occur at several places in Western, Southern and North-western coastal areas in the morning too.
