‘Baby’ and ‘Rana’ arrested over Tangalle shooting

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder that had taken place on September 23 in Tangalle.

Two unidentified persons, covering their faces, had arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at the owner of a vehicle service centre in Netolpitiya area of Weliara police division, while he was working.

The incident had occurred between 11.00-11.30 a.m. on September 23.
The owner of the vehicle service centre had succumbed to injuries following his admission to the Tangalle Hospital.

Tangalle police officers arrested the two individuals in connection with the incident last morning (02) at around 08.30 a.m. near the Tangalle bus stand.

The individual who was charged for aiding and abetting the shooting incident has been identified as a 41-year-old named Wanigakankanamge Ajith Prasanna, alias “Pola Baby”, a resident of Pattiyapola, Netolpitiya.

The other individual, charged with carrying out the shooting, is identified as a 49-year-old resident of Wigamuwa area in Ranna named Nimala Samarawickrama Dahanayake aka “Rana”.

Following the preliminary inquiries, the police managed to seize a machete containing blood stains and a fully-covered headgear that had been used during the shooting.

The two suspects are slated to be produced before the Tangalle Magistrate’s Court today (03) while Tangalle Police is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
