Severe thunderstorm and heavy rainfall warning

The Meteorology Department has issued a warning for severe thundershowers and heavy rainfall in the North-western, North-central and Central provinces and Mannar, Vauniya and Kegalle districts in the next four hours.
Thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning and thunder are likely to occur in the warning areas during next several (about four) hours, it said.
Fairly heavy rain falls are expected at some places (above 100mm) while temporarily strong gusty winds up to 70-80 kmph are also possible during thundershowers.
