Chilaw-Colombo main road is currently blocked at the Thoppuwa Junction due to a protest by fishermen.

A group of fishermen has been blocking the Waikkal Thoppuwa Bridge since this morning (08), based on several demands.

Protestors said that they are demanding the government to resolve their issues such as increase of fuel price, price hike of ice and allowance of more than 30 fishing vessels of a private company to poach in the area.

Chilaw, Negombo, Kurunegala and Kuliyapitiya main roads have been completely blocked, since 11 am today, due the protest.

Police requests motorists to use alternative routes who plan to use these roads.

The protest is joined by fishermen from Puttalam and Negombo, stated Ada Derana reporter.
