Responding to the emergencies following the adverse weather condition in the island, Sri Lanka Navy has deployed 14 relief teams, 11 dinghies and 2 Emergency Rescue Boats in the Southern and Western provinces.

Accordingly, relief teams are pressed into action in Mathugama, Walallavita and Bulathsinhala areas in the Kalutara district, Neluwa, Nagoda, Thawalama, Hininduma, Avithawa and Wakwella in the Galle district, Katupotha and Akuressa in the Matara district and also in Wattala area of the Colombo district, the SLN said.

Several groups of naval personnel belonging to the Navy’s Diving Unit, Special Boat Squadron and Rapid Response Rescue & Release Unit (4RU) were engaged to remove logs and branches of trees clogged underside of the Avithawa Bridge in Galle, restricting the downstream of water and posing a threat of flood condition in the area.

Navy teams had averted the possible threat with their prompt action.
