‘Habarakada Wasantha’ and ‘Meegoda Upul’ killed in gunfire

Two notorious underworld gang members have been killed in a shootout with Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel at Rukmalgama Road in Kottawa.

The deceased have been identified as the organized criminals ‘Habarakada Wasantha’ and ‘Meegoda Upul’, according to the Police Media Spokesperson.

A team of STF personnel had attempted to arrest several suspects under the Expressway Bridge on the Rukmalgama Road, Kottawa when the suspects had opened fire at them.

The STF personnel had returned fire injuring two suspects, who had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Homagama Hospital.

The deceased were later identified as the notorious organized criminals ‘Habarakada Wasantha’ and ‘Meegoda Upul’.

Police said that Habarakada Wasantha is one of the suspects in the jewellery store robbery in Matara in June, which had ended in a shootout with police.

A machine gun and micro pistol were found in the possession of the suspects.
