Second COVID-19 death reported in Sri Lanka

Another patient who had been infected by the novel coronavirus has passed away while receiving treatment at the Negombo General Hospital.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health stated that a 64-year-old male resident of Kochchikade, Negombo had died from the virus.

The individual in question had initially been admitted to a private hospital in Negombo before being transferred to the District General Hospital Negombo today (30) due to showing symptoms of Coronavirus. 

The patient had subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 while he had succumbed to the virus this evening while receiving treatment.

Reportedly, the deceased had suffered from a heart attack as well as a chronic respiratory illness. 

This is the second patient in the country to succumb to the virus.

On March 28, a 60-year-old kidney transplant patient who had suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure passed away while receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH).

Currently, 122 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Sri Lanka while 104 patients are under observation.

Meanwhile, 14 patients have been discharged thus far after completely recovering.
