Former United National Party (UNP) MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara stated that he has not received any written notification regarding the cancellation of the party membership for working with the Sajith Premadasa-led alliance Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya General Secretary stated this at a press conference called by the Alliance today (28).

General Secretary of UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, yesterday (27), said that letters have been directed to party members who signed nomination papers for the forthcoming General from other political parties, demanding reasons for their conduct.

None of the UNP members who signed nomination papers for the impending election from other political parties has sought the written permission of the Working Committee, he pointed out.

Kariyawasam further stated that the explanations and appeals of such members pertaining to the matter will be taken up at the upcoming meeting of the Working Committee and necessary actions will be determined.
