The Department for Registration of Persons says that one-day service for issuing National Identity Cards (NICs), which was temporarily suspended following the outbreak of COVID-19, will resume from June 22.

Special measures will be implemented by the Department to ensure compliance to health regulations introduced by the authorities to prevent the spread of the virus.

The Department also noted that NICs will be issued to a limited number of people per day.

Accordingly, under phase one, 250 persons per day will receive the service at the main branch of the Department in Battaramulla and 50 persons per day at the Southern Province branch in Galle.

Those who wish to obtain the one-day NIC service are urged to certify their application from the Grama Niladhari in their respective areas and subsequently direct it to the relevant Divisional Secretariat for countersigning.
