The government is looking into increasing the number of guests allowed to attend wedding ceremonies or other social events up to 200, said Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

The Minister, at a meeting with Sri Lanka Reception Halls and Caterers’ Association yesterday (23), said that the relevant proposal has already been forwarded to the Presidential Task Force on Controlling the COVID-19 Outbreak.

The number of guests allowed at a wedding or a social event has been limited to 100 persons due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

However, representatives of Reception Hall owners and caterers pointed out that the allocated number is not adequate.

Minister of Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Ranatunga also requested the representatives attending the meeting to register at the tourism authority if haven’t already.

Currently, the aforementioned registration process is facilitated through online.
