Sri Lanka to establish a weapons museum

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to establish a museum controlled under the Department of National Museums for the conservation of the ancient weaponry discovered in the island.

“It has been identified of a formal programme to be implemented for the collection, conserving, maintaining and securing the ancient weapons including the stone age weapons unearthed from the archeological excavations, the weapons used in the ancient times but are being dilapidated by now, as well as modern weaponry.” 

Accordingly, considering the proposal submitted by the Prime Minister, approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted for the establishment of a respective unit for the conservation of the weaponry within an appropriate museum controlled under the Department of National Museums at present, the Government Info. Department said.
