BOC, People’s Bank say majority of branches operative despite strike

The General Manager of the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has confirmed that over 200 branches islandwide are operating as usual, despite the multisectoral trade union strike taking place today (15 March).

Accordingly, Russel Fonseka stated that 265 branches, including the Head Office and all other divisions, are operating as usual to serve the public seeking banking services.

This was confirmed by the President’s Media Division (PMD).

Meanwhile, the General Manager of People’s Bank, Clive Fonseka, has confirmed that nearly 300 out of the 340 branches are fully functional. 

Accordingly, Fonseka, who is also currently serving as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of People’s Bank, stated that 330 branches out of the 352 across the island are fully functional, with attendance reported at over 75% as at 10:30 this morning.
