All schools in the Matara district will remain closed for two days next week in view of the prevailing torrential rains and inclement weather conditions, the District Disaster Management Committee reported.

Accordingly, schools in the Matara district will be closed on 09 and 10 October.

Schools in the Matara district were also closed on 05 and 06 October, Education Director of the Southern Province Ranjith Yapa said, owing to the bad weather conditions.

‘Red’ landslide warnings have been issued by the National Building and Research Organisation (NBRO) for several areas in the Matara district.
