The government has decided to reopen three Sri Lankan Missions that were temporarily closed between 2021 and 2022 after identifying the need to resume operations of these missions.

As such, the Sri Lankan Consulate General’s Office in Nicosia, Cyprus; the Sri Lankan Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq; and the Sri Lankan Consulate General’s Office in Frankfurt, Germany are to be reopened.

The Cabinet of Ministers, on Monday (Jan.08) green-lighted a proposal presented by Minister Affairs Foreign Ali Sabry in this regard.

Sri Lankan Missions/Posts in Abuja (Nigeria) Frankfurt (Germany) and Nicosia (Cyprus) were temporarily closed with effect from December 31, 2021, as part of a general restructuring process which aimed at conserving the country’s foreign reserves and minimising expenditure related to maintenance.

Later, the diplomatic missions in Baghdad (Iraq), Sydney (Australia) and Oslo (Norway) were also temporarily closed with effect from April 30, 2022, in respect of the prevailing economic situation and foreign currency constraints faced by the country.
