Woman murdered near expressway: Suspect arrested at BIA trying to flee country

An individual who is suspected to have murdered a woman near the Kahathuduwa interchange of the Southern Expressway, has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, police said.
The 41-year-old victim, who is an employee of the Civil Aviation Authority, had been hacked to death in the Kahathuduwa area last evening (09).
A 45-year-old man suspected to have committed the murder was identified and arrested at the airport while attempting to leave the country, the police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.
The victim, a resident of Madapatha in Piliyandala, was on her way home after work when she had been murdered near the Kahathuduwa entrance to the expressway.
Police suspect that the murder had been committed over an illicit affair.
The arrested suspect had only recently returned to the country after several years overseas, according to police.
