One killed, 08 injured after bus-van collision in Kilinochchi

A person has died while 08 others sustained injuries following a bus-van collision that took place in the Elephant Pass area of Kilinochchi, early this morning (Jan 24).

Police stated that the accident took place after a passenger bus attached to Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) travelling from Jaffna to Kandy collided with a van returning to Jaffna from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

The SLTB passenger bus has first hit a herd of cattle on the road before colliding with the oncoming van.

A woman who was travelling in the van in question has died in the accident, while 08 other individuals who sustained injuries during the accident have been rushed to Kilinochchi Hospital. However, the condition of five of them is critical, as per hospital sources.

Meanwhile, 08 cattle have also been killed in the accident, Ada Derana reporter said.
