Former NMRA chief remanded

The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court has ordered the former CEO of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) Dr. Vijith Gunasekara to be remanded in custody until May 20, 2024.

He was produced before the court today (09) following the recording of a statement by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Dr. Gunasekara was arrested by the CID on Wednesday (08) and was interrogated for more than 10 hours following his arrest.

The CID apprehended Dr. Gunasekara in connection with the procurement of substandard human intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) vials.
