A significant increase in skin-related diseases is being observed across the island these days, as revealed by Dr. Indira Kahawita, Dermatologist at Colombo National Hospital.

Dr. Kahawita further advised that medical treatment is mandatory for certain skin diseases of this nature.

“Heavy exposure of skin areas not covered with clothing to sunlight can cause itchy spots on the skin. Small children may develop white spots on their faces, especially on the top of the cheeks, slightly below and around the eyes”, she said.

“Fungal infections are also prevalent. Currently, we observe that fungal infections pose a significant concern. Refrain from attempting any home remedies for such infections. Seek immediate medical attention from a qualified doctor”, Dr. Kahawita further advised.
