The Colombo Fort Police Station has initiated an investigation into an alleged incident of death threats made against the State Minister of Finance, Shehan Semasinghe.

The threatening phone call was reportedly received at the State Minister’s office last afternoon (15).

The anonymous caller is said to have threatened Semasinghe, stating he would not be allowed to contest the upcoming elections and that the state minister would be assassinated if the threat is ignored.

Accordingly, the State Minister’s media unit confirmed that Colombo Fort Police have commenced an investigation based on a complaint lodged by State Minister Semasinghe.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media in Habarana, the State Minister revealed that the President has stated that the Presidential Election would be held first, followed by other elections.
