Schoolgirl dies after being run over by bus

A 10-year-old schoolgirl has reportedly died after being run over by a private bus in the New Kurunduwatta area.

The tragic incident had occurred this morning (22) at Udahenthenna within the New Kurunduwatta police area.

The schoolgirl, a resident of at Patithalawa in Malgolla, had gotten off the same bus and was attempting to cross the road in front of the bus when she was run over, police said.

She was critically injured in the accident and had succumbed to her injuries after being admitted to the Kurunduwaththa Divisional Hospital.

Both the driver and the conductor of the bus have been arrested by police over the incident and further investigations are being carried out by New Kurunduwatta Police.
