West Indies opt to bowl first against Sri Lanka in 1st ODI

West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and elected to bowl first against Sri Lanka in the opening ODI of the Sri Lanka tour of West Indies 2026 at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

 

Explaining the decision, Hope said the hosts expected some assistance for the seamers early in the innings and wanted to make the most of the conditions.

 

Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis expressed confidence in his side despite being asked to bat first. He said the visitors had prepared well for the series after arriving in Jamaica early and believed they had a balanced combination for the opening match.
