Police Media Division says the computerized data system used to process Police Clearance Certificates has been restored following a temporary system failure and applicants can now submit applications online as usual.

Police Clearance Certificates issued by Police Headquarters are processed by the Clearance Division located on the 17th Floor of the Suhurupaya Building, Battaramulla.

Applications for Police Clearance Certificates, the obtaining of relevant reports, and the printing of certificates are carried out through a computerized data system.

According to a statement issued by the Police Media Division, the said data system became inactive at 12.50 p.m. on 20 August 2026. Following notification to the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), necessary measures were taken to restore the system.

Accordingly, applicants can now submit applications for Police Clearance Certificates online as usual, the statement said.

However, following the system failure on 20 August 2026, applications submitted by applicants on that date were removed from the clearance data system.

Therefore, applicants who submitted their applications on 20 August 2026 are requested to submit a new application online, the Police Media Division stated.

The statement said that the Police Clearance Certificate will be issued after the relevant reports have been obtained in respect of the new application.

The fee of Rs. 5,100 paid for the previous application will be refunded to the credit card used by the applicant for the payment, it added.
