President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the government will not hesitate to introduce the necessary constitutional amendments to transform Sri Lanka into a peaceful country by preventing drug trafficking and crime.

The President made these remarks while attending the 160th anniversary celebration of the Sri Lanka Police held today (03).

Expressing his appreciation for the Sri Lanka Police, President Dissanayake said the highest number of drug raids had been conducted over the past two years.

He stressed that suspects must be brought before the law and punished with the same urgency with which they are arrested, noting that there are currently significant delays in the legal process.

The President said all relevant institutions must be activated to address these delays, as criminals are aware that punishment can take a long time.

He further stated that the government has taken decisions to make all relevant processes more efficient and has already introduced the necessary legislation.

“If constitutional amendments are necessary for this purpose, we will make them without hesitation. We will not hesitate to introduce the necessary constitutional amendments for the well-being of the people of this country,” President Dissanayake said.
