The Department of Prisons states that Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently being held in remand custody, has been granted permission to receive cooked meals from home.

Prisons Media Spokesperson Senaka Palletenna stated that the permission was granted following a request made on behalf of MP Namal Rajapaksa.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered MP Namal Rajapaksa to be remanded until September 18 following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on suspicion of accepting bribes in connection with the controversial Airbus deal.

Accordingly, the Prisons Media Spokesperson stated that special security arrangements have been implemented in and around the ward where he is being held at the Colombo Remand Prison.

The spokesperson further stated that permission has been granted for up to three individuals to visit him per day.

Meanwhile, Namal Rajapaksa’s mother, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, visited the Welikada Prison this morning (07) to inquire about his well-being, said Ada Derana reporter.

Member of Parliament Rohitha Abeygunawardena also arrived at the Welikada Prison this morning to visit Namal Rajapaksa, who is the National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
