The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the publication of a new Bill aimed at preventing organized crime in Sri Lanka in the Government Gazette and its subsequent presentation to Parliament for approval.

Accordingly, the Bill is intended to introduce the necessary legal provisions to protect society from the threats posed by organized crime groups and to prevent and combat serious crimes.

Its objectives also include giving effect to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and curbing organized crime through national and international cooperation.

A decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held on March 30, 2026, to draft the aforementioned bill.

Accordingly, the Bill, drafted by the Legal Draftsman, has also received clearance from the Attorney General.

Consequently, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the joint proposal submitted by the Minister of Justice and National Integration and the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to publish the Bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently present it to Parliament for approval.
