President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has met with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou, who is currently visiting Sri Lanka, at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (17).

The President emphasised that recent economic indicators demonstrate that Sri Lanka’s economy has embarked on a path towards stability and said the Government’s expectation is to take the country towards a transformative era by building on this stability, Anura Kumara Dissanayake said in a statement.

The IMF delegation commended the significant economic progress Sri Lanka has achieved to date. In particular, the delegation recognised and appreciated the measures taken in recent times to increase State revenue, attract foreign investment and maintain fiscal discipline.

President Dissanayake also expressed his appreciation for the strong foundation provided by the IMF in establishing economic stability in Sri Lanka and stated that the Government’s intention is to move forward while safeguarding the achievements made thus far, the statement said.

He further stated that the Government’s objective is to utilise these economic achievements to ease and improve the living standards of the people.
