Advisory issued for severe lightning
An ‘Amber’ advisory has been issued by the Department of Meteorology for severe lightning in the Uva, Eastern provinces and in Mullaittivu, Polonnaruwa districts.
The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. today (18), will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m.
Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the Uva, Eastern provinces and in Mullaittivu, Polonnaruwa districts.
Temporary localized strong winds may occur during thundershowers, the Department of Meteorology added.
The general public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity.
