President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the upcoming Budget is expected to provide tax relief to the public by reducing the burden of certain existing taxes.

President Dissanayake made these remarks while addressing a public meeting held in Akuressa.

He also revealed that arrangements have been made to allocate Rs. 2,000 billion for capital expenditure under the upcoming Budget.

According to the President, this will be the highest amount ever allocated for capital expenditure in a single year in Sri Lanka’s history.

He further stated that the funds allocated for capital expenditure would be utilized next year to systematically develop essential infrastructure across the country, including roads, bridges and electricity-related infrastructure.

“There is a burden associated with certain taxes. We expect to provide relief from some of these taxes through the upcoming Budget.

“Furthermore, Rs. 2,000 billion has been allocated for capital expenditure next year under the Budget.

“We intend to use these funds to develop roads, bridges, electricity infrastructure and all other essential infrastructure. Next year will become the year in which the highest level of capital expenditure is undertaken in Sri Lanka’s history,” he said.
