Minister of Energy Anura Karunathilaka says the government plans to remove existing restrictions on rooftop solar panels in the future.

Speaking to media at an event in Galle, the Energy Minister said the present government believes it will be possible to ease the current limitations on rooftop solar power systems.

He also said the government is considering measures to enable domestic electricity consumers to use battery storage systems to meet their household electricity needs during nighttime hours.

According to Minister Karunathilaka, the government is also looking into providing tax concessions for battery systems and introducing standards to ensure their proper use.

“We believe that we will be able to remove the restrictions that have been imposed at present in the future,” the Minister said.
