Advisory issued for severe lightning

An ‘Amber’ advisory has been issued by the Department of Meteorology for severe lightning in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Central provinces and Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
The advisory, issued at 12.00 noon today (22), will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m.
Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Central provinces and Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
Temporary localized strong winds may occur during thundershowers, the Department of Meteorology added.
The general public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity.
