Suspect arrested over death of man during clash in Negombo

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of an employee following a massive brawl at an restaurant in Periyamulla in the Negombo Police Division.
The suspect, an 18-year-old from Periyamulla, was arrested today (10) following investigations carried out by Negombo Police.
He is to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court later today.
One person died while several others were wounded and hospitalized following a clash at an eatery in Periyamulla area at around 9.30 p.m. last night.
According to reports, the clash broke out after the owner of the shop and employees had objected to a group of around 6 individuals who had attempted to consume alcohol within its premises.
Four persons including the owner of the restaurant were admitted to the Negombo Hospital with critical injuries following the incident while one of them had succumbed to injuries.
The deceased is a 36-year-old resident of Ganewelpola, Kekirawa.
Negombo Police is conducting further investigations.
