The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Chilaw via Kankasanthurai and Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

 

The advisory, issued at 07.00 a.m. this morning (23), will be effective for the next 24 hours until 07.00 a.m. on Monday (24).

 

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Chilaw via Kankasanthurai and Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be very rough at times with very strong gusty winds up to 60-65 kmph, it added.

 

The sea areas off the coasts extending fromChilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle will be rough at times with strong gusty winds up to 50-55 kmph.

 

Meanwhile, the wave heights may increase about 2.0–2.5 m in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota, according to the Met. Department.

 

Thus, naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive in this regard.
