Sri Lanka claimed an easy 328 runs win against Bangladesh in the first Test played in Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday (25).

Sri Lanka, who have never lost a Test series in Bangladesh, made 280 in their first innings and Bangladesh replied with 188.

The lions then made 418 with first innings centurions de Silva and Kamindu Mendis both reaching three figures for the second time in the match, helping Sri Lanka post a mammoth 510-run target for Bangladesh.

They were only the third pair from the same country to score centuries in each innings of a Test after Australia’s Chappell brothers, Greg and Ian, and Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali. With his two maiden Test centuries, young Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis also etched his name into the record books as the first player to score twin centuries at No. 7 or below in a Test match.

Bangladesh reached 129 for 7 at launch since starting day 04, on 47 for 5 chasing 511. After the Tigers began the fourth day, they lost the wicket of night-watchman Taijul Islam early in the day, with him getting trapped LBW for six.

Setting out an early strike for Sri Lanka, Kasun Rajitha picked up 05 wickets during the second innings, while Vishwa Fernando claimed 03 wickets.

The second and final match of the series will be played in Chittagong from March 30.
